The 2025 Commander’s Cup Series continues on August 14th at the Fitness Center with the Regatta Race! 

Regatta Rules

Materials and Construction

  • Teams will be provided with a standard set of materials for boat construction (e.g., cardboard, tape, scissors).
  • No external materials are allowed unless specified.
  • Teams have 1 hour to build their boats.
  • Each boat must fit within a 4×6 foot footprint when completed.
  • Boats must be human-powered (e.g., by paddling or rowing) 

Safety

  • At least one team member must always stay with the boat during the building phase to ensure safety.
  • Lifeguards will be on duty, and their instructions must be followed at all times.

Race Structure

  • The regatta will consist of two heats and a final race. 
  • Teams will be randomly assigned to each heat.
  • The top 2 teams from each heat will advance to the final race.
  • In the event of a tie, a sudden death race will determine the advancing team.

  Race Rules

  •  Each boat must have at least one team member onboard during the race.
  • Boats must be propelled using the means provided during the building phase (e.g., paddles made from cardboard and tape).
  • Intentional ramming or interference with other boats is prohibited and will result in disqualification.
  • Teams must complete the race without assistance from non-team members.

Judging and Scoring

  • The race will be timed, and the fastest time to complete the course will determine the winner.
  • In addition to speed, boats will be judged on creativity, design, and teamwork.
  • Additional points will be awarded for innovative use of materials and team spirit.

Disqualification

  • Any team found using unauthorized materials will be disqualified.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including but not limited to sabotage, will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Teams must adhere to all safety rules; failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Race course

  • Teams must navigate from the starting line to the finish line without leaving the course boundaries (no holding onto the sides of the pool).
  • Any boat that veers off course must be returned to the point where it left the course.

Awards and Prizes

  • Prizes will be awarded for:
  • Overall Winning Team
  • Best Team Spirit

General Conduct

  • All participants are expected to conduct themselves respectfully and courteously.
  • The event coordinators’ decisions are final and binding.
