Fitness Center Offers Free Online Options for Staying in Shape During Social Distancing

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- By Kristin Molinaro DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

The Defense Federal Community may no longer be able to attend in-person fitness classes at the Defense Supply Center Columbus Fitness Center but they still have a variety of virtual options for staying in shape to choose from thanks to the center’s fitness experts.

When fitness centers across Ohio closed in late March to comply with the coronavirus pandemic’s social distancing requirements, the installation’s Fitness Center quickly responded by adding free virtual workout options, On-Demand videos and Workout of the Day plans.

“These innovative workouts were created for those staying at home during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Jennifer Russell, DSCC MWR’s marketing manager.

The center typically provides more than 25 instructor-led classes weekly, serving approximately 12,000 customers a month including military and civilian employees, their families, retirees and veterans.

When the center closed its doors, fitness instructors immediately went to work adapting and modifying classes for the home environment.

On-Demand classes and Workout of the Day plans were added to the DSCC Morale, Welfare and Recreation website, with video links to their YouTube and Facebook pages.
